Day 1
Arrival to Tana

Tonga soa, welcome to Madagascar! On arrival at Antananarivo international airport, a member of Unique Trip Mada will give you a warm welcome. You’ll then be driven to the heart of the capital to settle comfortably into your hotel. Your Malagasy adventure can now begin!

Tana – Antsirabe

Distance covered: 170 km – 4h30 drive

After a delicious Malagasy breakfast, it’s off to Antsirabe, in the south of the island! During the journey, let yourself be enchanted by the breathtaking scenery that unfolds before you: Madagascar reveals all its natural splendor, the true jewel of the red island! From your window, admire the green rice paddies of the highlands and the picturesque traditional houses. En route, take a break in Ambatolampy to explore the artisanal manufacture of kitchen tools. On arrival in Antsirabe, set off on a captivating stroll to soak up the town’s fascinating architecture, blending traditional Merina houses with colonial charms.

Day 3
Antsirabe – Miandrivazo

Distance covered: 247 km – 6h drive

To start your morning in Antsirabe, immerse yourself in local authenticity by exploring the town’s artisan workshops: stroll between mouth-watering confectionery, fascinating zebu horn sculptures and small, unique works of art. Then it’s on to Miandrivazo, Madagascar’s hottest town and gateway to the Tsiribihina River. After an afternoon on the road, let yourself be dazzled by the spectacular sunset and breathtaking scenery, before returning to your hotel for a well-deserved night’s sleep.

Day 4
Miandrivazo – Tsiribihina river

This morning, it’s off to Masiakampy pier, just 27 kilometers from your hotel. On arrival, climb aboard a barge, a flat-bottomed boat ideal for gliding along rivers. Ready for adventure? You’ll begin the descent of the Tsiribihina River, nicknamed “the river where you don’t dive” because of its scaly inhabitants, the crocodiles! Along the way, marvel at the unspoilt flora and fauna of this region of Madagascar: endemic plants such as kalanchoes, baobabs and aloes, as well as fascinating birds, reptiles and lemurs. You’ll also discover the daily lives of the people who live along the river, a captivating aspect of your trip. You disembark at Nosy Ampela, where your bivouac is ready for the night. Sleep under the stars in your tent and create lasting memories of your Malagasy adventure!

Day 5
Tsiribihina river

Day 2 of your Tsiribihina River barge adventure: After dismantling your bivouac, you board the boat to continue your descent westwards. In the morning, a riverside stop invites you to take a picturesque path leading to an enchanting waterfall. Climbing through the forest, you discover a natural pool where you can bathe in complete serenity, immersed in the wild beauty of Madagascar. Back on the barge, you continue your journey between majestic basalt cliffs, enjoying lunch on board. Observe the river’s rich bird life, with possible encounters with kingfishers, teal, herons and humpback ducks. In the late afternoon, you disembark at Berevo, a picturesque village surrounded by rice paddies, where you may be lucky enough to witness a traditional Sakalava song performance. Your dinner will take place along the river, in an idyllic setting, before returning to your tent for a restful night’s sleep.

Day 6
Tsiribihina river – Bekopaka

Distance covered: 100km on track

After a delicious breakfast, you embark on your third day of navigation on the Tsiribihina River aboard the barge. In the late morning, the forest landscape gives way to gentler relief, and the river meanders between sandbanks. You’re soon approaching Belo-sur-Tsiribihina! Here, the river comes alive with a variety of boats, testifying to the strategic importance of this small town, gateway to the Tsingy, Madagascar’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a final lunch on the boat before disembarking. A 4×4 awaits to take you to the village of Bekopaka, a four-hour drive away, where your hotel will welcome you for the night.

Day 7
Bekopaka: Manambolo Gorges and Grands Tsingys

For this day of adventure in Madagascar, get ready to explore a real jewel protected by UNESCO: the Tsingy de Bemaraha Natural Park! This exceptional site offers a breathtaking array of landscapes, from primary forests to vertiginous limestone peaks over 60 meters high, not to mention mangroves and sparkling lakes. The day begins in style with a pirogue ride through the Manambolo gorges, where the river meanders between limestone formations. You then continue your exploration on foot with a visit to the cliff caves, ancient necropolises of the Vazimba, the island’s first inhabitants. Mid-morning, it’s off to the Grands Tsingy! Set off from Andamozavaky, 17 kilometers from the park entrance, and discover the mysteries of the Tsingy forest: its fascinating tunnels, thrilling suspension bridge and belvederes offering 360° panoramic views for miles. The day ends with spectacular images, and you return to your hotel to enjoy your last night on this magical Madagascar tour.

Day 8
Bekopaka – Morondava

Distance covered: 200km on track

On your eighth day in Madagascar, we set course for Morondava, a lively town on the shores of the Mozambique Channel! Despite its dynamic growth, Morondava has managed to preserve its idyllic beachfront, escaping urbanization that could have harmed the island’s biodiversity. Today, it’s one of Madagascar’s most beautiful beaches.

Your journey takes you along a spectacular track, through grandiose landscapes and past Belo-sur-Tsiribihina, where you take the ferry across the river. You’ll arrive just in time to admire a breathtaking sunset, with the baobab trees silhouetted against a sea glistening in the golden rays. After this enchanting spectacle, you return to your hotel for a memorable last night on this magical island.

Morondava – Tana

After a restful night at the hotel, enjoy a delicious breakfast to get your last morning on the red island off to a good start. As you soak up Madagascar’s breathtaking scenery one last time, you’ll head for the airport, taking with you unforgettable memories of this exceptional trip.
